DSBS Travel Awards
The Deep-Sea Biology Society (DSBS), together with the ISDSC7 organizers, sponsored travel awards to the 7th International Symposium on Deep-Sea Corals (ISDSC7) in Cartagena, Colombia. These awards were open to any members of the society and can be used towards any costs associated with attendance and presentation (oral or poster) at the symposium. If you are not a member yet, you can become one at https://dsbsoc.wildapricot.org. The maximum amount that could be requested was £750. Awards were be based on both the quality of the abstract and evidence of financial need. Successful applicants were required to write a short blog post, report or video blog for the Society website about their experience at the Symposium. Full terms and conditions below.

DSBS Travel Awards 2019 – Terms and Conditions
1. Applications are only open to current members of the Society for the ISDSC7.
2. Applicants should provide a cost breakdown of the proposed travel including total costs, costs requested from the society, and possibility of co-funding where required.
3. The maximum amount that any individual can be allocated in any one funding round is £750.
4. Applications will be ranked by the Society Trustees based on the scientific quality of the abstract and evidence of financial need, for example students/early-career researchers, early-career researchers between positions and researchers from developing nations.
5. Trustees of the Society are not permitted to apply for awards, but members of their research labs are permitted. Where members of a Trustee’s research lab is an applicant, the relevant Trustee will be omitted from the ranking discussion with regard that application.
6. Awards will be announced by the end of April 2019 and payments made via bank transfer on receipt of bank details.
7. If for some reason you are subsequently unable to attend the meeting you are required to return the award to the Society.

The DSBS will award one-year free membership to the society and a cash prize to the best student and best early-career oral and poster talks at the ISDSC7. Runners up in each category will also receive prizes.
Society student and early-career Talk and Poster Prize DSBS – Terms and Conditions
1. The Prizes are open to any registered student or early-career individual presenting at the ISDSC7. Early-Career is defined as post-PhD, but pre-tenure, or equivalent permanent position. Prizes will be awarded for best student and early-career Talks and Posters. Similarly highly commended prizes will be awarded to the runner ups for the best talks and best posters. Awards are given at the discretion of the conference’s organizing committee.
2. Desire to be considered for these prizes must be indicated during abstract submission in the conference website.
3. Presentation of the award will be made by a Society trustee at the symposium's closing ceremony.
Publication Prize for Best Student and Early-Career Talks
Frontiers in Marine Science will provide a publication fee waiver to the winners of the best Student Talk and best Early-Career Talk awards. This waiver only applies for papers submitted to the symposium proceedings Research Topic. Presentation of the award will be made at the symposium's closing ceremony.
